The School was established at the then former site of the Eglinton Hunt Club. The Site was purchased by the federal government in 1939.

Effective 8 January 1945, No 1 Initial Training School and No 1 Ground Instruction School were disbanded. The disbanded units were absorbed into 1 Composite Training School (KTS) which had been relocated from Trenton to Toronto on 9 January 1945.
