“The Aircraftman”

30 October 1942 No 1 Technical Training School, St. Tomas, Ontario. Even before the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan commenced the production of aircrew who are numbered today high in the thousands, the great RCAF Technical Training School was turning out the “boys who keep ’em flying”. Recently – almost on the third anniversary of its opening, the TTS at St. Thomas, Ont., turned out its 20,000th graduate and it is only one of the schools of the RCAF which produce ground crew. Like aircrew graduates of the BCATP, ground crew graduates of TTS are serving wherever the RAF and the RCAF fly. Pictured above is the parade of airmen which marked the graduation of the 20,000th ground crewman. The rank upon rank of airmen visible in the picture represent considerably less than a twentieth of the trained men the TTS has graduated. (National Defence Image – PL-11862)
