Unit Duties / Information: Land was purchased in 1938. Construction started during the fall of 1940.Opened Apr 1941 to train pilots in advanced aircraft operation as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan prior to the aircrew being deployed overseas. The airport hosted No. 31 Operational Training Unit during the first part of the war. In 1944 No. 31 OTU was redesignated No. 7 OTU.
