CARBERRY, 1944

  • 1st APRIL – The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
    A lighting snooker tournament was held in the Airmen’s Lounge.
  • 2nd APRIL – Aircraft serviceability 79.5%.
    The usual Sunday evening “Fireside Hour” was held in the Airman’s Lounge.
  • 3rd APRIL – The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
    An open Carnival Night was held at the Carberry Indoor Skating Rink for Station personnel and their guests.
    Two matches were played in the Station Bowling League.
  • 4th APRIL – The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
    A dance was held by members of the Corporals’ Club; partners were present from the C.W.A.C. Camp Shilo. Group Captain and Mrs. J.S.T. FALL attended, with a party, a most enjoyable evening being had by all.
  • 5th APRIL – The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
    No. 2 Visiting Flight reported from C.F.S., Trenton.
    The Station was entertained at an evening concert by the R.C.A.F. “SWING TIME” Unit. An outstandingly good show was given, and enjoyed by a large and appreciative audience.
  • 6th APRIL – A “Wings” Parade was held for the successful graduates of Course No. 94; 55 graduates received their Wings from W/C. D. KINNEAR, AFC, AFM.
    A graduation dinner was given for the graduates, the guest of honour being Group Captain J.S.T. FALL, DSC, AFC.
  • 7th APRIL – The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
    DISPOSITION OF COURSE NO. 94.
    Original Course Intake:- 81 (Including 12 transferred from other Courses & 9 from 38 SFTS).
    Graduated:
    • No. 31 P.D. – 33;
    • No. 1 G.R.S. – 11;
    • No. 32 O.T.U. – 6;
    • No. 2 F.I.S. – 5.
    • TOTAL:- 55.

CARBERRY, 1944

  • 7th APRIL (CONT.) – Eleven graduates received commissions.
    The disposition of the remaining twenty-six was:-
    • Course transfers – 14
    • Training discontinued – 12
  • 8th APRIL – The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
    A dance was held at R.l., PETREL, for petrel personnel only.
  • 9th APRIL – Aircraft serviceability 76.2%.
    A category “D” accident occurred today at 08.45 hours. A/C. No. JS.218, piloted by an instructor, landed with undercarriage retracted.
    The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
  • 10th APRIL – The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
    160 children of the town of Carberry were entertained by the Station at an Easter Party. Tea and organized entertainment, comprising games, conjurer and a film show, were provided. Every indication was given that a highly enjoyable time was had by the children.
  • 11th APRIL – The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
    A G.C.M. was held on the Unit today for the purpose of trying F/O. J.E. FOSTER – RAFVR, and F/O. J. TYRER – RAFVR.
  • 12th APRIL – The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
    A recorded session of classical music was given by the Station Music Club. The Station Badminton Club met in the Drill Hall.
  • 13th APRIL – The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
    A General Court Martial was assembled for the purpose of trying P/O. C.G. SIMPSON, RAFVR.
    An Exhibition Snooker Match was played between the Officers and Airmen.
  • 14th APRIL – A category “B” accident occurred at 10.15 hours. A/C. J.S. 105, piloted by an instructor, stalled at low altitude during precautionary approach, instructor and pupil being only slightly injured.
    The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
  • 15th APRIL – The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
    A lightning snooker tournament was played in the Airmen’s Lounge.
    The Badminton club met in the Drill Hall.
  • 16th APRIL – The maximum number of hours were fit for flying. Aircraft serviceability 69.4%.
    The Station was entertained to an evening Concert by the “Curvettes” Concert Party.

CARBERRY, 1944

  • 17th APRIL – The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
    The Station Bowling League commenced their final league games of the season.
    A recorded session of popular jazz tunes was held in the Airmen’s Lounge.
  • 18th APRIL – The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
    A concert of recorded classical music was given by the Station Music Club.
  • 19th APRIL – The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
    The Station Fellowship held their weekly meeting in the Padre’s Office.
    An Airmen’s Dance was held in the Recreation Hall, and was well attended by airmen personnel.
  • 20th APRIL – A category “D” accident occurred today, involving A/C. 8453, piloted by a pupil. The pilot, overshot and applied brakes harshly; a/c consequently nosed over.
    The Badminton Club met in the Drill Hall.
  • 21st APRIL – The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
    W/C. the Rev. G.W.N. GROVES, RAF Staff Chaplain, visited the unit.
    An Exhibition Snooker Match was played in the Airmen’s Lounge.
  • 22nd APRIL – The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
    A Softball Meeting was held in the Recreation Hall for interested personnel.
  • 23rd APRIL – Aircraft serviceability 65.19%.
    The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
    The Sunday “Fireside”Hour” meeting was held in the Airmen’s Lounge.
  • 24th APRIL – The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.

    S/L. C.J. FRANCS (T(e)) – No. 47320 – reported on posting from No. 32 O.T.U.
    A recorded session of popular jazz tunes was held in the Airmen’s Lounge.

CARBERRY, 1944

  • 25th APRIL – The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
    P/O. D.J. LOVELL (GD) – No. 163801, and P/O. D.L. COSSEY (GD) – No. 164021, reported on posting from No. 1 I.F.S.
    The Station Fellowship held their weekly meeting in the Padre’s Office.
  • 26th APRIL – The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
    F/O. P. CRITCHLOW (A&SD) – (No. 107854)- reported on posting from No. 32 O.T.U.
    The Music Club held their weekly programme of recorded classical music in the G.I.S. at 19.30 hours. The Y.M.C.A. organised a party to the baths at Brandon YMCA, leaving the Unit at 19.30 hours.
  • 27th APRIL – The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
    F/Lt. G.A. KELLY (C.20808), H.Q., No. 2 T.C., reported on temporary duty from No. 2 T.C. – W. & B. Inspection.
    P/O. J.E. HILL, (163928) (GD) reported from No. 2 F.I.S. on posting. P/O. J.S. OWEN ( 55296) (GD) reported on posting from No. 2 F.I.S.
  • 28th APRIL – The maximum number of hours were fit for flying.
    S/L. H.B. HUNTER (C.3628), H.Q., No. 2 T.C., reported on temporary duty – Reselection duties.
    P/O. P.G. MIALL (163979) (GD) and P/O. E.C. COOK (163890) (GD), reported on posting from No. 2 FIS.
  • 29th APRIL – There were nil hours fit for flying.
    P/O. J.C.S. MILES (173348) (GD reported on posting from No. 32 S.F.T.S.
    A Lightning Snooker Tournament was held in the Large Canteen at 1900 hours.
  • 30th APRIL – There were seven hours fit for flying.
    Due to change-over of Canteens, the usual “Fireside Hour” held every Sunday was cancelled.
    The Beaver Club Concert Party gave an excellent performance in the Recreation Hall at 20.00 hours.
