I served at CFS Holberg at transportation from 1982 to 1986. We never let the rain get us down, as we could always been found fishing on one of the rivers around the area.. The station was one of my best postings as it was self contained with everything we needed for recreation, shopping, entertainment and good friends. When ever I talk to a friend from my time there it is as if we spoke yesterday, because we were family or as close to family as we could be. The secret to making the best of it for your one or two year posting, was to keep busy. I kept very busy with being a vollunteer fire fighter, cub scout leader, radio DJ, and I worked and then managed the auto club gas bar. My many duties at work were basic driver duties around base 1982 to 83, heavy equipment 1983 to 84, heavy equipment supervisor 1984 to 1985 and safety supervisor 1985 to 86. I lived in the apartments for my 1st two years then extended for another two years and moved to the much more comfortable houses. CFS Holberg was a special place with special people it will always feel like home to me and it will always be missed. My daughter who lived her 1st 4 years of life there and I went back a few years ago for a reunion at the logging camp. We went to the base and drove to were the intersection in the middle of the toensite use to be. I was explaining to her everything that would have been around us as if I was seeing it from 1986. It is all overgrown now as they bulldozed everything. You can make out the cracked and broken pavement and can walk down the road the houses stood on. At the upper gate to the ops site there now stands a metal fence and a memorial to all that served at CFS Holberg. I know I will never go back but fondly remember you all that served there with me as family.
