  • First day of the month falls on Sunday with good weather and a promise of more in store.
  • R.C. and Protestant Church Parades held in forenoon.
  • Word was received from Edmonton this morning that ACe Coghlan, R261675, one of our General Duty Airmen placed second in the finals of the 50 yard swim event at the Alberta Swimming Championship.
  • Our men’s softball team lost the second and final game against Lethbridge Breweries for the Southern Alberta Championship. Final score 7-4. Seems highly probable that the Brewery team had more “Hop” on the bill.

  • Weather good and clear.
  • Headquarters squadron P.T. and Drill parade and Sports held in afternoon.
  • New beer quota for the month of August received and woe and betide us, is somewhat smaller than last month. Hope it’s not so hot this month.
  • Our senior W.D. Officer, Section Officer Raitblatt V30069 placed on another well deserved ring on her promotion to Flight Officer.
  • F/L Osler also received his promotion and henceforth shall be S/L Osler.
  • C.O. held his first Staff Officers! meeting for special lectures today. These lectures are to be carried out weekly by section heads and specialist officers in order that the remaining staff will appreciate the other chap’s job.
  • Today is the day to roll out the riding habits, with the arrival of six horses (apologies to Whirlaway) to inaugurate the Circle FIS Ranch and Riding Academy. This sport should prove very popular with all the prairie to ride around in. Tentative plans going forward for stand-up lunches to ease the pains of our would-be equestriennes,
  • The W.D. ward in the Station hospital opened today. (this and the horses seem like fate.)
  • Legion picture show in evening rounded out the day.

  • Weather somewhat cooler,
  • Airmen’s Mess Committee held their semi-monthly meeting today.
  • Pilot Officer W.E. Williams (B.E.M.) (C26527) arrived on the station to bolster our Engineering Staff as Technical Adjutant.
  • Musical evening held in Legion Hut in evening.
  • Station cricket team worked out this evening.
  • Captain Epstein, our very popular dentist, posted out to No. 19 S.F.T.S., departed this evening. Captain Brett replacing him, from Macleod.

  • Weather unusually dull.
  • W.D. ensign raising parade held this morning.
  • F/L Jenkins, Fire Prevention Officer, from Noe 4 T.C. arrived on temporary duty to carry out his periodic check of the station.
  • Legion picture show failed to arrive and the station orchestra promptly filled in with a dance for airmen and airwomen in the Rec. Hall. Was a great success and more Wednesday nite dances are planned for the future.
  • Our soccer team defeated by Claresholm 2-1.
  • Another station weiner roast planed for tomorrow night, if the weather clears up.

  • Weather poor with very heavy showers in morning. Cleared nicely in afternoon.
  • Graduation parade for course No. 81 held at 1430 hours on the Station Parade Grounds.

  • Evening wound up with the Station Weiner Roast going over with a bang.
  • Weather turned out very good notwithstanding threats from the Met. Section that great clouds were hovering over the appointed place of rendezvous anxious to shower down upon all lovers of hot dogs and mustard. A huge bonfire was lit and a sing-song took place the like of which probably hasn’t been heard in this prairie since the days of the last Indian Potlach.

  • Weather continues to smile upon us with continued sunshine.
  • New course arriving today.
  • Our senior medical officer is again on the warpath after hearing the rumours that bugs, bed, had invaded the student officers quarters.
  • Great activity also apparent from Student’s viewpoint.
  • More spoils from our victory garden today. Harvested no small amount of peas, beans and lettuce.
  • Maintenance headquarters and Repair Squadron moved into No. 4 Hangar this morning.
  • Regular Saturday night dance held in Rec. Hall for Airmen and Airwomen was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

  • Weather good.
  • Regular R.C. and Protestant Church Parades held in morning.
  • Calgary Chinooks girls softball team arrived to play our W.D.s for Central Alberta Softball championship. Both games were won by the visitors, but off the record tough, luck lost the games to us and next year the answer will be much different.
  • Finished the day off with a victory dance for the visitors in the Rec. Hall.
  • The Chinooks departed with fond memories of the hospitality of Pearce, especially the food, which they claim is the best they not only have eaten, but seen for a long tine. Ah, pity the poor civilians and their ration books

  • S.L. Gower M.C. S.A.O. C2426 on temporary duty to Calgary to book pictures for our station Theatre.
  • W.D, kit inspection to-night.
  • Station Orchestra played at dance in Rec. Hall for Airmen end Airwomen. Wound up the evening by serving as a surprise hot-dogs and cold drinks by the courtesy of Station Fund. Went over with great success. C.O. was in attendance and awarded prizes
  • to dancers. .

  • Our Senior Accounts Officer, S/L. Kergan was presented on parade with a letter of congratulations from the Chief of Air Staff for submitting an original idea which is being adopted in part throughout the Air Force.

  • Light rain this morning ,
  • S/L Anderson from S.A.E.O. staff, No. 4 T.C. and Flight Officer Evans, W.D. Officer No 4 T.C. visited station today.
  • Our S.M.O. reports that the rumours re bugs in the Student Officers quarters has now been confirmed. Some students offered early confirmation a la epidermis, but the M.O. was desirous of seeing the intruders as mosquito bites are somewhat similar. S.O.S. sent to Calgary for exterminator and all should be well in few days.
  • Our soccer team got revenge from previous defeat by Claresholm by taking the long end of a 5-4 score in a hard fought game at that school.
  • Picture shows started once again in Rec. Hall with the showing of “Mission To Moscow.”
  • One of our very populat instructors F/L Bryson E.M. J.5116, received the instructors reward with a posting overseas today.
  • Airmen’s Mess Committee meeting held in Mess Hall.

  • Normal routine carried out with great care as the date and the day makes the superstitious very wary.
  • The evening activities included golf, swimming, riding, picture show and the usual rush of action from those going on 48’s.
  • Boxing enthusiasts are carrying on a great deal of practice. It. is hoped to arrange a tournament in the near future.

  • Weather clear.
  • Wing Commander F.R. Sharp (C858) (P) (GL) our Chief Instructor assumes Temporary Command during the absence of the C.O. on leave.
  • All student officers living in the Barrack Block over-run by our 6 legged friends have been given a 48 to allow the exterminator a free hand in his battle.
  • A dance was held in the Rec. Hall for the Airmen and Airwomen with the orchestra from Macleod in attendance. Very successful and well enjoyed.
  • The Sergeants not to be out-done held a smoker and the rendition of some favourite songs went over well. Their beer quota for the month also took a beating.

  • Church parades for R.C. and Protestants held in morning.
  • Four members of our cricket team assisted the Southern Alberta Cricket team to defeat a picked civilian team in Calgary.
  • Practical assessment forms are being completed in preparation for the coming trade test board in September.
  • Golf and riding holding the limelight in recreational periods.

  • Weather good.
  • Our sports section moved to a more convenient location in the Drill Hall.
  • Mve Crane IA aircraft arrived on the station and have been added to our strength.
  • Our 50 G.D’s have completed training at this unit and were distributed amongst various sections who have been operating consistently below establishment. Each trainee was given a questionnaire to complete before allocation to a section and it is hoped we have reduced “square pegs in round holes” to a minimum.
  • “Casablanca” was the feature picture of the Station Theatre and in spite of hard seats was thoroughly enjoyed.

  • A great deal of activity going on from the W&B viewpoint.
    • The recreation hall locking very smart with its new coat of paint and trimming.
    • Gasoline compound has also been fenced-in.
    • The ensign staff has alse been changsd from the East side of the parade ground to the North side.
  • Evening activities included
    • a musical evening in the Legion Hut,
    • a soccer game against No. 8 B.& G. with the visitors losing the first game with a 2-1. score.
    • In a softball game against the instructors of No. 3 S.F.T.S., Calgary our instructors beat them by a 5-4 score. This is a new departure between stations in this locality and shows promise of a good competition.

  • Weather clear and cool,
  • Airmens’ kit inspection 1430 hours.
  • Cinema begins operating in afternoons for the benefit of personnel on night duties and early flying schedule,
  • S/L Anderson C2682, and civilian representatives for Cornell and Rangers visited the station from # 4 T.C.
  • Our fire department detachment at Granum, our relief field, saved the hotel at that town from destruction this afternoon, by prompt action when fire broke out.

  • The station was visited by the Inspector General, Air Vice Marshal Croil, G., (C.65) C.B.E., A.F.C., and Air Officer Commanding No. 4 T.C., Air Vice Marshal Howson, G.R., MC. (C.33) all day.
  • Our men’s and ladies softball teams played Macleod, the men winning their game and the girls on the short end of a 3-2 score. The W.D.’s entertained in their canteen following the game.
