A Brief stop before Europe

(Republished from the 18 October 1989 issue of The Voxair)

Air Command Band at Legislative Building.

The Air Command Band has just completed a successful tour of Edmonton, Calgary, Regina, Toronto and Halifax. Entertaining thousands at the Canadian National Exhibition, Klondike Days and International Air Shows the band captured the applause of the festive crowds. The band also provided music for Prince Andrew’s Royal Inspection of the Guard in Regina.

While our busy ensemble catches its breath for a brief period here in Winnipeg, we wish to acknowledge the promotions of some of our personnel. Congratulations to; from Wpg Warrant Van Der Spek CD, from Vancouver Sgt Hawley CD, from Appleton Wisconson Sgt Strieby BMus., from Ottawa Sgt Strecker BMus., from Trois-Riviéres Sgt Prud’Homme, and from St-Foy Quebec City Cpl Pare.

We would also like to haul out the welcome wagon to Sgt McFarlin from Calgary and Sgt McLuskie from Cornwallis, our two new percussionists, and to our new clarinetist Pte Paquette Bmus., recent Canadian Forces School of Music graduate. Boy, wait till they see our winters!!

The loss of personnel through postings and retirement is always hard on such a close knit group and we will miss WO Smale, Sgt Hall, Sgt Hasselfield, and Sgt Stevens to their new bands. Lastly we heartily wish a long time member of the Air Command Band, clarinetist Sgt Greg Seroy, good luck in his new career on civvy street.
