Posted here from Jan 1973 to Jul 1975 when the base closed. The majority of people were gone by the summer of 1975, not sure if that was the official closing date??
I was there from 15 Sep 64, when it changed from a deployment from Bagotville 425 Sqn to RCAF Stn Val d”or. At this time the manning was 15 personnel and by Dec ’64 it rose to 425. It was also known as F Troop Fort Courage. The CO was W/C D.A.B. Smylie ( he had flown and been shot down twice in Spitfires during the Battle of Britain). I left in 1968, it was a 3 year restricted posting I got an extension of one year tried for more but as W/C Smylie said “we are the last Indians at Fort Courage and we have to go” Loved every minute I was there and loved being a Charter member and Plank holder.
My Dad, “Cec” Adams, aero engine tech, was posted to Val d’Or from Bagotville in 1966, We left for Chatham Fall of 1968. I travelled through there while working at Mattagami Lake during the summers of ’83-’84. ent to school at Percival High. Great memories.
I was stationed there as an MP from 1968 to 1971. Left there for CFB Chilliwack, BC and then after 9 years joined the Vancouver Police for 31 years.
I was there from March 74 to May 75 I was with the United State Air Force. Military Police.
I was there from Jan to sept 1965. Spent most of my 9 mos at QRA.
I was there from summer of 65 to summer of 68. (13 to 16 age ) . Dad was a MSE operator, kept the runway clean. Went to Percival highschool. Went to Expo 1967 with the Boy Scouts
